NOSM University was established to reach into medically underserved communities in the North like never before. Our entire reason for being is to understand the health-care needs of the North, and to come up with equitable solutions that work for the North. NOSM University’s education is quite literally “all over the map,” taking learners out of the traditional classroom and into your community. Learners are woven into the fabric of more than 90 Northern Ontario communities. They learn in context about the determinants of health that are relevant to the region, with the hopes that their experiences will win over hearts and minds and encourage them to practice in the North upon completion of their training.
