Book a Standardized Patient
Any faculty member, tutor, or preceptor associated with an accredited program at NOSM University can request an SP. The request must be supported and approved by the Program Director or equivalent.
To request an SP, please submit the Standardized Patient Request form electronically. We require a minimum notice of 4 to 6 weeks for booking. The Standardized Patient Program Coordinator will review the request and respond accordingly. We reserve the right to decline requests based on scheduling conflicts, resource availability, or failure to meet request deadlines.
Types of Learning Sessions
SPs participate in various types of learning sessions, including medical history, counselling, clinical exams/procedures, physical exams/procedures, management, and high-fidelity simulations. However, invasive procedures are excluded from their scope.
Diverse Patient Portrayals
We have a wide range of experienced SPs capable of portraying patients in various scenarios, such as mental health issues, breaking unwelcome news, difficult and angry patients, cross-cultural interviewing, domestic violence, boundary-crossing patients, pain, informed consent, medical error disclosure, and sexuality.
