How to Apply/FAQs

The NOSM Orthopedic Surgery program participates in the R-1 Main Residency Match through the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS). Application to the the program can be found by visiting the CaRMS website at www.carms.ca.

Candidates for the Orthopedics Residency Program at NOSM are selected based on the following factors:

  • demonstrated interest in Orthopedic Surgery
  • excellent assessment reports from schools, clinical rotations and strong letters of reference
  • strong interpersonal skills, exemplifies a high standard of professionalism, a commitment to self-directed learning
  • strong desire to train in northern clinical settings as well as tertiary hospitals

 These factors are assessed through the following:

  • a personal interview
  • the review of the personal letter
  • the review of performance assessments from clinical rotations in medical school, particularly during Orthopedics rotations and/or electives
  • the review of letters of reference
