ICEMEN

June 9-14, 2008

It was a great pleasure for the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) and Flinders University School of Medicine to co-host the inaugural ICEMEN: International Conference on Community Engaged Medical Education in the North in June 2008.

ICEMEN welcomed delegates and health field dignitaries from nearly every continent to address the topic of community-engaged medical education, which is a distinctive hallmark of NOSM and Flinders University School of Medicine. This week-long conference was held in Sudbury and Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, with site visits to the medical learner-hosting communities of M’Chigeeng (Manitoulin Island), Sault Ste. Marie, Hearst, Timmins, Wawa, Kapuskasing and Geraldton.

The comprehensive program which included oral and poster presentations, debates, skill stations, small group sessions, master classes, and visits to communities provided many excellent opportunities for delegates to share their expertise with, and learn from, peers from around the world

A multiplicity of perspectives by world-leading medical educators and practitioners, immersed in diverse community contexts, truly enriched the growing discourse on community-engaged medical education

On behalf of NOSM and Flinders, thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of ICEMEN.
