Position Summary
The Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) Clinical Sciences Division (CSD) lead is a key leadership role within the Clinical Sciences Division (CSD) at NOSM University. This role provides dedicated CSD leadership within UME.
The Liaison ensures consistent application of CSD faculty-related policies across all UME phases, strengthens faculty engagement, supports accreditation requirements, and enhances the integration and delivery of clinical education throughout NOSM U’s distributed model. The Liaison serves as the primary liaison between UME, CSD, and Section Chairs.
This is a one-day-per-week pilot role, with potential for renewal.
Reporting
The Clinical Faculty Liaison UME reports to the Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs, Clinical Sciences.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Administration
- Provide strategic and consistent leadership and guidance from the CSD Faculty Affairs perspective across the UME program.
- Ensure alignment of CSD faculty policies with accreditation standards, NOSM U curriculum requirements, and best practices in medical education.
- Serve as a liaison between UME, CSD leadership, Section Chairs, and the Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs, Clinical Sciences.
- Represent and advocate on behalf of Clinical Sciences Division faculty on the following committees:
- Phase 1 Committee
- Phase 2 Committee
- Phase 3 Committee
- Program Evaluation Committee (PEC)
- Undergraduate Medical Education Curriculum Committee (UMECC)
- Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC)
- Other committees as required
- Support the UME Section Curricular Leads and Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics Chair and strengthen communication between Leads/CMT Chair and Section Chairs.
- Assist UME leadership in identifying and recruiting Clinical Faculty for curricular, instructional, and administrative roles within UME.
Clinical Teaching Support & Faculty Development
- Work with UME leadership and the Continuing Education and Professional Development (CEPD) portfolio to identify and support clinical faculty development needs related to undergraduate medical education.
- Promote an inclusive, supportive learning environment for medical students and Clinical Faculty.
- Strengthen engagement and collaboration with Local Education Groups (LEGs), ensuring their UME contributions are supported and valued.
Accreditation, Policy, & Quality Improvement
- Ensure that clinical faculty-related components of the UME curriculum meet national accreditation standards (e.g., CACMS, IQAP).
- Support monitoring and evaluation of UME curriculum quality, using data from students, faculty, distributed sites, and accreditation bodies.
- Help maintain consistent application of CSD policies related to UME (e.g., expectations for teaching, evaluation standards, feedback processes, recognition mechanisms).
- Support or develop quality-improvement processes for clinical faculty teaching, particularly in Phase 1. Specifically, work with the Division Head, Human and Medical Sciences, to review and improve the quality of clinical faculty teaching of WGS, CBL, TOS and LAB sessions.
- Provide CSD faculty-related expertise in preparing documentation and evidence for accreditation reviews and continuous quality improvement cycles.
Qualifications
Education
- MD with active licensure and ongoing clinical practice.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Minimum 5 years of experience in clinical education, medical teaching, or related leadership roles.
- NOSM University Faculty Appointment at Assistant Professor or higher.
- Demonstrated experience in medical education, curriculum development, and student assessment in a distributed model.
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience with clinical sciences division faculty affairs processes (appointments, promotions, evaluations) is considered a strong asset.
- Experience within distributed medical education settings is an asset.
- Preference will be given to NOSM U faculty residing in Northern Ontario.
Language
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
Remuneration
- As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process
Time Commitment
- One (1.0) day per week
