NOSM’s Continuing Education and Professional Development unit, with funding from Health Canada, has developed a program to make opioid prescribing and tapering safer and easier to manage for primary care providers in Northern Ontario.

The program incorporates two educational approaches:
1. Self-directed online learning module (up to 2 hours)

  • Access the module from any device, at anytime
  • Receive information and resources to enhance competencies in assessment and management
  • Promotes self-reflection on prescribing habits to encourage positive practice changes
  • ‘Manage’ situations through guided questions
  1. Community of Practice (up to 4 two-hour workshops)
  • Occurs over secure and confidential virtual platform- join from anywhere
  • Facilitator-led, closed, small-group workshops
  • Meet with like-minded primary care providers to discuss real cases
  • Develop strategies to overcome barriers
