NOSM’s Continuing Education and Professional Development unit, with funding from Health Canada, has developed a program to make opioid prescribing and tapering safer and easier to manage for primary care providers in Northern Ontario.
The program incorporates two educational approaches:
1. Self-directed online learning module (up to 2 hours)
- Access the module from any device, at anytime
- Receive information and resources to enhance competencies in assessment and management
- Promotes self-reflection on prescribing habits to encourage positive practice changes
- ‘Manage’ situations through guided questions
- Community of Practice (up to 4 two-hour workshops)
- Occurs over secure and confidential virtual platform- join from anywhere
- Facilitator-led, closed, small-group workshops
- Meet with like-minded primary care providers to discuss real cases
- Develop strategies to overcome barriers
