Two New Members Appointed to NOSM Board of Directors
The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) held its Annual Members and Board of Directors meetings on Wednesday. These meetings were video-linked between the School’s West Campus at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and its East Campus at Laurentian University in Sudbury, with other Directors participating via teleconference. School Reaches Full Complement of Medical Students for First Time Today officially marks the first day of school for 58 new medical students at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM), following a whirlwind orientation week of exposure to the diversity and vitality of Northern Ontario. On Friday, August 22, 2008, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) celebrated the graduation of the first class of the Northern Ontario Dietetic Internship Program (NODIP). A videoconferenced graduation celebration linked the four principal community sites – Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, and Thunder Bay – that began training the School’s dietetic interns in October 2007. Premier of Ontario Announces $3.3 Million for NOSM
On Friday, August 22, the Honourable Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario, along with Minister for Northern Development and Mines, Michael Gravelle, as well as fellow Thunder Bay MPP Bill Mauro, announced that the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) will receive $3.3 million to assist in the expansion and upgrading of learning and clinical spaces and equipment in NOSM communities throughout Northern Ontario. Dryden will welcome two medical students in September of this year. The students will begin learning in the community’s principal health-care facility, Dryden Regional Health Centre. Northern Ontario Dietetic Internship Program Granted Full Accreditation Status by Dietitians of Canada
The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) is pleased to announce that the Northern Ontario Dietetic Internship Program (NODIP) has been granted full accreditation status by the Dietitians of Canada Accreditation Committee. The program is a joint initiative between NOSM and the NODIP Professional Advisory Committee, and involves multiple facilitators, sites and partners throughout Northern Ontario. Lakehead University and NOSM Receive $2 Million to Develop Health Services Virtual Organization
Earlier this week, Lakehead University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) announced the receipt of major development funding from CANARIE Inc. Part of a larger funding agreement valued at $15 Million, the funds will be used for their “Health Services Virtual Organization (HSVO)”.
