Dr. Lori Livingston Appointed to NOSM Board of Directors

Using a combination of video- and tele-conference connectivity across Northern Ontario, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) held a regular meeting of the Board of Directors on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. Members of the Board approved the Financial Report for the period ending December 31, 2010, and a new member was appointed to the Board of Directors. Dr. Lori Livingston, Dean, Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, was inducted into the Board comprised of 35 members from across Northern Ontario. Fostering Excellent Faculty Relations at NOSM, NOSM Hosts Third Annual Faculty Affairs Retreat

On March 4-5, 2011, nearly 80 faculty members of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) came together at the third annual Faculty Affairs Retreat held in Sudbury. The theme of this year’s retreat was “Excellence in Teaching at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.” The retreat included a keynote session, concurrent professional development sessions, and an update on research at NOSM. NOSM Begins Search for New Associate Dean of Postgraduate Medical Education

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) is beginning the search for a new Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education. The Postgraduate Education Unit of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine is responsible for the provision, administration, and support of residency training programs in Northern Ontario. The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) will be hosting an information session for individuals interested in applying to the Bachelor of Science Physician Assistant degree program. Physician Assistants (PAs) are skilled health professionals who support physicians in a range of health-care settings. Generous Barrick Gold Gift a Boon to Marathon and Northern Ontario

Lakehead University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) are pleased to accept substantial gifts from Barrick Gold Corporation – Hemlo Mine. The value of the Barrick Gold gift is $150,000, but with matching funds from the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS), the total value of the gift is raised to $235,000. This donation makes a significant contribution to learning and healthcare in Northern Ontario.
