Reporting to the Associate Dean Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME), and under the authority of the Provost and Vice President, Academic, the Assistant Dean, PGME QI and Accreditation, will lead quality improvement programs aligned with institutional accreditation Areas for Improvement (AFI’s) and strategic initiatives as well as supporting and overseeing residency program QI strategies. The overall purpose of this role is to ensure continuous, strategic and effective quality improvement in all domains of postgraduate medical education at NOSM University and support key faculty providing pan-PGME leadership.  This includes leading the Accreditation Subcommittee of PGME, overseeing internal reviews and systemic quality improvement programs, identifying faculty development and infrastructure support needs, creating effective reports and adapting quickly to the changing needs of a complex portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Chair the Accreditation and CQI Subcommittee of PGMEC.
  • Oversee the internal review process and follow QI plans.
  • Work with other PGME leadership to implement an overall plan for PGME including monitoring/tracking, problem identification and understanding, creation of improvement plans, implementation and reporting including:
    • Leadership development
    • Learning site development
    • Learner experience improvement
    • Committee/policy performance improvement
    • Staff development and support
  • Work with all residency programs to help create QI plans, monitor and report on improvements.
  • Supervise and performance manage pan-PGME leadership positions as required.
  • Support preparation for accreditation work including action plan outcome reports, external reviews and regular reviews.
  • Anticipate and understand changes in accreditation standards and work to rapidly ensure NOSM University compliance.
  • Identify areas of alignment with UME accreditation and learning site quality improvement.
  • Create a yearly NOSM University PGME Quality Improvement report.

Qualifications

Education

  • M.D. or equivalent with appropriate post-graduate training for clinical practice.

CERTIFICATIONS/DESIGNATIONS

  • RCPSC or CCFP certification
  • Current licensure with CPSO
  • Must have a Faculty Appointment or qualify for Faculty Appointment in Clinical Sciences Division, ideally at the rank of Associate Professor or above.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of 3 years of practice experience is required.
  • Must be engaged in current clinical practice.
  • Must have experience in residency education and accreditation.
  • Experience in implementing quality improvement programs.
  • Experience with distributed education web-based teaching would be an asset.
  • Experience working with francophone and indigenous faculty and communities would be an asset.
  • Proven experience in the coordination of various tasks under tight deadlines.
  • An understanding of the principles of medical education, including competency-based education and adult learning.
  • An ability to supervise both directly and collegially.
  • An ability to delegate and mentor colleagues/faculty as required.
  • An ability to work within established organizational practices, protocols and policies.
  • An ability to work in a consultative and collaborative fashion with a variety of other units to further the overall school strategic objectives.
  • An ability to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension). French and/or Indigenous language skills would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of educational policies and processes with PGME environment.
  • Knowledgeable about progressive approaches to leading change, problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Superior communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective skills as a team player and team leader.
  • Open, collegial consultative leadership style.

Language

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
  • French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset

Remuneration

  • As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process

Time Commitment

  • Two (2.0) days per week
