NOSM Welcomes New IMG CoordinatorPosted on November 12, 2019
The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) is excited to announce that Dr. Chiebere Ogbuneke, Sudbury family physician and NOSM alumnus, is the new International Medical Graduate (IMG) Coordinator for the School’s nine residency programs.
Dr. Ogbuneke began his career 20 years ago at the Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy in Russia achieving an MD degree with first-class honors. He moved on to a medical internship and family medicine residency in Tanzania before joining NOSM in 2013 as a resident. He graduated from NOSM’s Public Health and Preventive Medicine program in 2017.
Dr. Ogbuneke brings a wealth of international experience and wide-ranging cultural competencies, along with first-hand experience of residency training as an IMG.
In addition to being a family physician in Sudbury, Dr. Ogbuneke is also a board member of the Black Physicians Association of Ontario.
The Northern Ontario School of Medicine would like to recognize the work of Dr. Glenna Stirrett, who completes her tenure as the International Medical Graduate Coordinator on December 31, 2019. Since she assumed this role in 2013, Dr. Stirrett built the IMG support program and has provided invaluable resources, coaching and guidance to international medical graduates and the residency programs. We are thankful for her dedication, compassionate approach to residency education. We wish her well in her next endeavours with international work.
