Profile

Elizabeth Levin has been teaching child development and clinical child psychology to undergraduate and graduate students for over thirty years.  She also developed the course in health psychology which incorporates problem based learning based on her experience with CBL facilitation at NOSM. She supervises graduate students in the Psychology, Human Development and Interdisciplinary Human Studies program and has supervised more than 50 graduate theses at Laurentian University.

Levin’s research interests focus on parenting styles and children’s conceptions of parenting.  She speaks frequently to the media and the public on parenting and child development issues. She is interested in many areas related to development and is currently working in the area of youth mental health.

Levin is the editor of the Canadian Clinical Psychologist and an associate editor of the Journal of Clinical Psychology Practice.

Elizabeth Levin served as the chairperson of the Psychology Department at Laurentian University for twelve years and was also the Vice Dean of Social Sciences. She has also served as coordinator of the graduate program in Human Development and the Psychology Graduate program. She brings a strong record of accomplishment in university administration to the position of Division Head.

Levin graduated from McGill University with an Honour’s Bachelor of Science degree, and obtained her master’s and doctorate in child psychology from the University of Waterloo. Levin is also registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario; as a registered clinical child psychologist, Levin consults to several agencies and institutions providing services to children and families.
