Important Information for International Applicants
This is a fully online, asynchronous program.
International applicants will not qualify for a Canadian study permit, as there is no in-person residency requirement.
Students complete all coursework remotely from their home country or place of residence.
Program Overview
The Master of Medical Studies program provides foundational research training for health professionals and health sciences graduates who want to strengthen their ability to answer complex health care questions.
The program focuses on building the skills required to:
- Develop meaningful research questions
- Select appropriate research methodologies
- Acquire grant funding
- Obtain research ethics approval
- Critically analyze scientific literature
- Translate research findings into practice
The MMS program emphasizes socially accountable research, with particular attention to rural and remote communities.
Program Details
Course-Based Option (Open to Domestic and International Applicants)
- Require an MSc credential
- Want to learn how to conduct high-quality research
- Do not wish to complete a thesis
- Prefer applied coursework over an independent research project
Students complete additional applied research courses instead of a thesis project. The focus is on developing strong research skills that can be applied in clinical, academic, or health system settings.

Students may choose to conduct in-person bench science research if they have a confirmed supervisor; however, all coursework remains online and asynchronous.
Please note: Students are required to pay a minimum of two years (six terms) of tuition, regardless of the time taken to complete the program or registration status.
To successfully complete the degree, students must maintain a minimum overall average of B (70%).
Admission Requirements
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a Health Sciences discipline or equivalent.
