CPSO Supervision: From Preceptor to Collegial Coach

Thank you for your participation as a collegial coach to a recent graduate! If you were unable to attend the initial session on June 22, 2020, or if you would like to review the session again, please view the video below.

Program Description:

Given the postponement of CFPC and RCPSC licensing examinations, graduating residents in Canada will be transitioning to practice on July 1st with a modified licensure process.  In Ontario, CPSO is offering a restricted license pending successful completion of their licensing examination.  Linked with a restricted license is the requirement of an approved CPSO Clinical Supervisor.  It is envisioned that the relationship between a Clinical Supervisor and recent residency graduate (Supervised Physician) will be collegial in nature guided by educational coaching principles.

Responsibilities for Clinical Supervisors and Supervised Physicians were reviewed with opportunities for questions and further discussion.  A framework for the initial required meeting between Clinical Supervisor and Supervised Physician were presented.  Fundamental educational coaching principles relevant to Supervisors were highlighted.  Clinical and examination preparation issues faced by graduating residents in their first six months of practice were explored along with available educational supports for NOSM faculty fulfilling the role of CPSO Clinical Supervisors.
