Medical Council of Canada Celebrates Centenary Year

On May 29, 2012, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) was honoured to host a special reception and faculty development workshop in celebration of the Medical Council of Canada's (MCC) centenary year. To mark this milestone, the MCC is sponsoring events at each of Canada's medical schools. NOSM was the first to be able to congratulate the MCC on 100 years. Engaging Local Researchers and Students in Topics Relating to the People and Communities in Northern Ontario

Earlier this month, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) hosted concurrent research conferences in Thunder Bay at Lakehead University. NOSM Announces New Assistant Dean, Learner Affairs

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Laura Piccinin to the role of Assistant Dean, Learner Affairs. Dr. Piccinin, who has been actively involved in medical education in Northern Ontario for more than a dozen years, is an MD graduate of McMaster University and completed Family and Emergency Medicine residency training in Northeastern Ontario. NOSM CEPD Program Receives Continued Full Accreditation for Five-Year Term

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine's (NOSM) is pleased to announce the Committee on Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education (CACME) has voted to continue full accreditation of the School's Continuing Education and Professional Development (CEPD) program for a five-year term. The Office of CEPD underwent an Accreditation Site Visit at both NOSM's East Campus in Sudbury and the West Campus in Thunder Bay in November 2011. Third Consecutive Year NOSM Receives Honour

On Friday evening, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) was presented with its third Society of Rural Physicians of Canada (SRPC) Rural Medical Education award. This year's award was given to the Canadian medical school program that has matched the most graduates to rural family medicine programs in the 2011 Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS) process. NOSM Learners to Engage with Thunder Bay Secondary Schools to Promote Health Care Related Careers

This spring, medical students from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) will begin an outreach program through the Ontario Medical Student Association (OMSA), the student section of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA). A cancer prevention research project involving Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) faculty members in partnership with 10 First Nation communities in Northwestern Ontario has garnered attention from the Cancer Quality Council of Ontario.
