The NOSM University Board of Governors has reappointed John P. Stenger as Chair and Susan Soldan as Vice-Chair, providing continuity and experienced leadership as the university advances its strategic priorities and its vision of health equity across the North.

Stenger has provided steady leadership as Board Chair, while Soldan has brought extensive experience to her role as Vice-Chair. Together, they have supported effective governance as NOSM University expands its programs, deepens partnerships, and advances innovation that improves access to health care across the region.

Initially appointed to one-year terms in November 2025, Stenger and Soldan will begin their renewed terms on January 1, 2027. They will continue to lead the Board of Governors in overseeing the university’s strategic direction and stewardship of resources, supporting its work with more than 90 diverse communities across Northern Ontario.

“John and Susan have demonstrated exceptional dedication to NOSM University and to the communities and partners who welcome our learners,” says Dr. Michael Green, President, Vice-Chancellor, Dean, and CEO of NOSM University. “Their thoughtful counsel and commitment to good governance have been invaluable during a period of significant growth. I look forward to continuing our work together as we educate and retain the next generation of health professionals for the North.”

“It is a privilege to serve as Chair of the NOSM University Board of Governors,” says Stenger. “I am honoured by the board’s continued confidence and look forward to working with my fellow governors, Dr. Green, and the university community to ensure the university remains strong, sustainable, and responsive as needs evolve.”

“NOSM University plays a vital role in improving health outcomes and creating opportunities across the North,” says Soldan. “I am grateful to continue supporting the board’s work and serving the university as it responds to the unique health-care needs of Northern communities.”
