CampMed, NOSM University’s flagship summer program, is more than just a camp—it’s a transformative first step on the journey toward a career in health care. Hosted on both campuses in Thunder Bay and Sudbury, CampMed invites high school students from rural, remote, Indigenous, Francophone, and underserved communities across Northern Ontario to explore the world of health sciences through hands-on learning, cultural engagement, and mentorship.

Through immersive, in-person workshops aligned with our Four Pillars of Learning—interprofessionalism, leadership, culture, and clinical skills—students gain exposure to a wide range of health-care careers, from medicine and nursing to midwifery and therapy.

They also have the opportunity to build meaningful connections with mentors, university student volunteers, and medical professionals who guide and inspire them.

Since 2006, CampMed has been inspiring the next generation to consider a career in health care:

1,139 campers from 166 communities

  • 43 have since been admitted to the MD program
  • 217 Indigenous (self-declared)
  • 388 Francophone (self-declared)

184 university students/graduate volunteers (since 2016) from 46 communities

  • 41 have since been admitted to the MD Program
  • 24 Indigenous (self-declared)
  • 57 Francophone (self-declared)

This is how change begins—by investing in young people who understand their communities because they come from them.

With your support, we can fund CampMed for two more summers, deepening its impact and helping build a stronger, community-rooted health-care system across Northern Ontario.
