Medical School Hosts 14th Annual Palliative Care Conference

On November 16, 2007, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) hosted a successful Palliative Care conference in conjunction with Pfizer, Purdue and Paladin Labs. Dr. Andrew Knight, local General Practitioner in Oncology, Palliative Care Lead for the Northeast and NOSM Associate Professor, welcomed more than 120 participants and health-care professionals from across Northern Ontario. Pan Northern Geriatric Care Conference Great Success

On October 24 - 26, 2007, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) hosted the first annual Pan Northern Geriatric Care Conference in partnership with First Link; Alzheimer Society of Sudbury-Manitoulin; North East Mental Health Centre; City of Greater Sudbury; Northeastern Ontario Dementia Assessment and Consultation Services; and, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, and in collaboration with Réseau de santé en français du Moyen-Nord de l’Ontario. NOSM Welcomes Interns to New Northern Ontario Dietetic Internship Program

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) recently welcomed its first intake of dietetic interns into the new Northern Ontario Dietetic Internship Program (NODIP). The program, a joint initiative between NOSM and the NODIP Professional Advisory Committee, involves multiple health-care facilities throughout Northern Ontario, with funding provided by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care in Ontario. NOSM Renames Francophone Bursary Fund in Honour of Maureen Lacroix

A standing ovation at the recent Francophone Symposium welcomed Mrs. Maureen Lacroix as the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) announced the renaming of a student bursary in her honour. The « Bourse communautaire francophone » has been renamed the « Bourse francophone Maureen Lacroix » in recognition of Mrs. Lacroix’s dedication to advancing Francophone initiatives in health-care throughout Northern Ontario. Four New Members Appointed to NOSM Board of Directors

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) held its Annual Members meeting and Board of Directors meetings yesterday. These meetings were video-linked between the School’s West Campus at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and its East Campus at Laurentian University in Sudbury, with other Directors participating via teleconference. Sioux Lookout Welcomes Four NOSM Medical Students

This week, four third-year medical students of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) are beginning their Comprehensive Community Clerkships (CCC) in the community of Sioux Lookout. Jessica Moretti, Lise Mozzon, Elaine St. John, and Tracy Michano-Stewart will be learning in the community’s principal health-care facility, the Sioux Lookout Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre. The Ontario government is strengthening the health care and prosperity of northerners by investing in a new Cancer and Cardiac Research Centre in Thunder Bay, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty announced today.
