As a McMaster PT student, I completed my second clinical placement in Thunder Bay in the medically complex care unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Being new to Ontario, I knew I wanted to explore more, and this seemed like an amazing opportunity to do that. Not only was the placement itself extremely fulfilling, but there were also endless opportunities to adventure and discover all that Northern Ontario has to offer!
Being so close to Lake Superior, there were extensive opportunities for outdoor activities, and I was out almost every day to soak it all in! That being said, it really is what you make it. Having the curiosity and initiative to explore a new place is important, but if you like the outdoors, you’ll love Northern Ontario!
Aside from all of that, the staff at NOSM University were extremely helpful and receptive. They went above and beyond to support students and even gave me itinerary recommendations for my 16-hour drive back home! They really took time out of their days to help, which enriched my experience so much.
The accommodations were lovely, and NOSM University happily fulfilled my request to room with one of my close friends from my class. Following my placement, travel reimbursements were quick and easy, and the staff remained extremely helpful throughout the process.
All in all, it was a 10/10 experience, and I already want to go back! Thank you, NOSM University, for this amazing opportunity!
