Reporting to Dr. Geoffrey Hudson, this position will support various research projects and activities in the history of health and medicine broadly conceived.

This position is covered by the Terms and Conditions of the OPSEU Unit 677 Collective Agreement (Unit 2). A copy is available on the NOSM University website.

Responsibilities

Tasks may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Creating databases and other items for the Researcher as per his instruction, working at home on own computer.
  • Taking responsibility for items lent by the Supervisor including copies of records obtained from Archives on hard drives
  • Returning hard drives as well as the completed databases (in machine readable format) on direction and at the conclusion of employment.
  • Meeting regularly with the Supervisor to report on progress
  • performing other duties as assigned, which may include editing

Qualifications

Education

  • A University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline from a recognized university with Canadian accreditation or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Archives Studies and/or History program, or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience is required
  • Previous experience as a University research assistant
  • Experience extracting, inputting data, and organizing archival records
  • Experience editing research papers
  • Demonstrated writing proficiency (i.e. reports, research publications, policies);
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Input data and maintain records with a high degree of accuracy;
  • Work effectively under time pressures;
  • Work effectively in a team environment;
  • Work within established organizational practices, protocols, and policies;
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension);

Language

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
  • French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
