The Phase 3 Clerkship Site Lead, Internal Medicine (Sault Ste. Marie) is a physician who serves as a contact person for the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) and/or delegate and clerkship students at NOSM University (NOSM U). They are responsible for ensuring clerkship students are receiving a high-quality educational experience in a safe learning environment during each Internal Medicine core rotation.
For the period of 2025-2027, this role will focus on strategic planning for medical education expansion in preparation for the Phase 3 (UGY4) program launch in the SAH Internal Medicine Department.
Reporting
The Phase 3 Clerkship Site Lead, Internal Medicine (Sault Ste. Marie), reports to the Associate Dean, UME. Collegial and collaborative supervision, leadership and guidance, including delegation of the tasks and contribution to performance review, will be by the Assistant Dean, Clinical Education, and Internal Medicine Section Chair.
Responsibilities
- Participate in strategic planning sessions for medical education expansion to build UGY4 capacity in Internal Medicine Department for 2027 student intake.
- Gain a thorough understanding of the NOSM U UME curriculum, with a specific focus on the Phase 3 Internal Medicine content.
- Establish a plan to support local Phase 3 department curriculum based on current infrastructure and faculty.
- Establish overall department medical learner capacity.
- Identify infrastructure, equipment, IT, administration requirements, etc. to support the NOSM U projected increase in medical learners in the department.
- Participate in the development of guidelines for layered learning opportunities and scheduling enhancements.
- Participate in development of department learner onboarding and orientation requirements.
- Collaborate with stakeholders from NOSM U UME, SSM AMA, SAH, GHC, and other local community facilities to assist in the planning process.
- Identify needs for continuing education and professional development of faculty to support Phase 3 in collaboration with SSM AMA, the Associate Dean, UME, and NOSM U CEPD.
- Participate in Internal Medicine Section meetings/communications providing updates and opportunities to gather input from section members on UME Internal Medicine clerkship rotation to support all functions of this role.
- Collaborate with Clerkship Leads in the same discipline on the other campuses (Sudbury & Thunder Bay) and the Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics, Clinical Internal Medicine Lead.
- Regularly attend monthly Phase 3 Committee meetings.
Qualifications
Education
- Doctor of Medicine degree
- Possession of a current license to practice medicine in the province of Ontario
- Must have (or be eligible for) a faculty appointment at NOSM U
Language
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
Remuneration
- As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process
Time Commitment
- Two and one-half (2.5) days per month
