On June 11, the NOSM University Senate approved the renewal of the Dr. Gilles Arcand Centre for Health Equity for another five years.

Since its establishment in 2021, the Centre has worked alongside communities, partners, and researchers to better understand and respond to the health challenges facing Northern Ontario. While meaningful progress has been made, the renewal recognizes that significant inequities persist and that the Centre plays an important role, especially in rural, remote, and Indigenous communities.

“The Arcand Centre was created to help ensure that research remains grounded in the priorities of the communities we serve,” said Dr. Erin Cameron, Professor and Director, Dr. Gilles Arcand Centre for Health Equity. “This renewal is both an opportunity to reflect on what we’ve learned and a commitment to continue building the relationships, knowledge, and capacity needed to advance health equity over the long term.”
