A Message from the Program Director
The NOSM Psychiatry residency program includes core rotations in Psychiatry and subspecialty rotations selected to incorporate a diversity of experience and proficiency in subspecialty areas integral to community-based practice, but less commonly emphasized in traditional Psychiatry residency programs.
Our program equips our residents with the necessary skills/competencies to become well-rounded, general psychiatrists who are trained to provide care to all patients in a wide variety of settings, including emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. With one-on-one preceptor support, residents receive ongoing support to meet the program learning objectives, as well as their own individual learning/career goals.
Upon completion of the program, NOSM Psychiatry residents will be well positioned to pursue subspecialty training, or begin their careers as general psychiatrists in any setting, including northern, rural, and remote communities.
Dr. Diane Whitney
