A Message from the Program Director

A warm welcome to the NOSM University Psychiatry Program! We are excited to introduce you to the unique features of our Program. NOSM U is one program, distributed across three sites. We excel at training future psychiatrists who are competent to work in underserviced, rural and remote regions; we work with some of the most vulnerable populations with complex, acute addictions and mental health needs. We are looking for future psychiatrists who are motivated, innovative, self-directed and enthusiastic about practicing Psychiatry in underserviced settings. NOSM U Psychiatry Residents live in the northern environment, and thrive in 1:1 individual mentorship model of clinical supervision. Our Residents benefit from accredited core training, while enjoying the small-town charm of our training sites. NOSM U Psychiatry includes core rotations in General and Subspecialty (e.g., Child & Adolescent, Geriatrics, Forensics, Addictions) Psychiatry in a diversity of experiences and depth of proficiencies. Our Program equips our graduates with the necessary skills and competencies to practice in a northern and/or rural setting, or to pursue fellowship opportunities. Our graduates are able to practice in a variety of settings including emergency, inpatient, outpatient, community, outreach and to underserved people and their families.
