Do you want to be part of NOSM's graduate studies community? NOSM has launched the Master of Medical Studies Program, the first cohort will begin in September, 2020.
The goal of the program is to improve the health status of all people in northern, rural, and remote communities. The Master of Medical Studies (MMS) program will provide foundational research skills for physicians who want to develop a robust approach to answering health care questions. NOSM Researcher Participating in Nationwide Haemophilus influenzae type a (Hia) Vaccine Study
Dr. Marina Ulanova, researcher and professor at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM), recently received a grant awarded by the Canadian Immunization Research Network (CIRN) for the project titled Studies in support of a new vaccine to prevent invasive Haemophilus influenzae type a (Hia) disease in Canadian Indigenous communities.
Gathering Addresses Youth Suicide in Northern and Indigenous Communities
On Wednesday, June 28, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) hosted a one-day workshop titled Pathways to Well-Being to address the high rates of youth suicide in Northern and Indigenous communities. The event, held in Thunder Bay, brought together 90 participants, including Indigenous Elders, youth, leadership, community members, and community-based health-care providers, to develop an action plan to create a future in Indigenous communities without suicide.
HSNRI, Laurentian University, and NOSM Partnership Strengthens Northern Research Opportunities
An Affiliation Agreement has been reached between Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI), Laurentian University (LU) and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) to enhance research collaboration between the three institutions. With the shared objective of striving to improve the health of residents of Northern Ontario, Health Sciences North Research Institute at Health Sciences North will be officially affiliated with Laurentian University and NOSM. The three institutions will seek to share resources thereby minimizing unnecessary duplication of any common infrastructure and maximizing research efficiency.
Medical School Launches Library Endowment Fund
Last week, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) launched its Library Endowment Fund Campaign in support of the School’s Health Sciences Library. The launch took place in both Sudbury and Thunder Bay at the “I ♥ NOSM” Open House, where more than 200 community members, alumni, students, residents, staff, faculty, donors, potential applicants, and partners visited NOSM.
