It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at NOSM University.
Our program is rooted in the unique and vital mission of NOSM University: to improve the health of women and communities of Northern Ontario. We are deeply committed to training exceptional physicians who not only deliver high-quality, evidence-based care but who also understand and embrace the cultural, geographic, and social realities of practicing medicine in the Northern Ontario.
As a resident in our program, you will gain outstanding clinical experience across the full breadth of obstetrics and gynecology, supported by dedicated faculty who are both skilled educators and passionate advocates for women’s health. With our partnership with the University of Toronto you will have opportunities to learn in diverse settings—from tertiary centres to community hospitals and rural clinics—ensuring you are well prepared for practice in any environment.
The home base of the program will be Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) – Thunder Bay, Ontario
TBRHSC is a leader in academic medicine and patient-centered innovation in Northwestern Ontario. As a state-of-the-art, 395-bed acute care facility servicing the entire region of Northwestern Ontario, with 1400 deliveries a year and daily gynecology OR including exposure to vaginal surgery, laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery and a hysteroscopy suite. There are numerous clinics dedicated to prenatal care, gynecology, ultrasound, menopause. colposcopy, gyne-oncology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility As an academic health sciences centre there are opportunities to explore research and quality improvements affecting women in northern ontario. Learners benefit from a low faculty-to-resident ratio, fostering strong one-on-one teaching and individualized feedback.
Our graduates leave with the skills, confidence, and compassion to provide comprehensive care, to serve as leaders in their communities, and to contribute meaningfully to advancing women’s health in Northern Ontario and beyond.
