Summer Student Research Endowment Fund
The Summer Student Research Endowment Fund provides essential, accredited research experiences that equip medical students with core competencies in critical appraisal, evidence-based decision-making, and scientific inquiry. By embedding students in faculty-led projects aligned with Northern, rural, remote, and Indigenous health priorities, the program strengthens NOSM University’s research culture while advancing its social accountability mandate. Philanthropic support ensures equitable access to these opportunities, accelerates locally relevant research, and trains future physicians who will improve healthcare delivery and outcomes across Northern Ontario for decades.
How the Program Works
- Students apply competitively in the spring
- Successful applicants are matched with funded faculty projects
- Each award provides a $5,200 stipend for eight weeks
- The stipend allows students to focus fully on research rather than seek outside employment
Most students conclude the summer by producing a report, abstract, poster, or manuscript, and many continue their projects into the academic year.
Every contribution is an investment for better healthcare. You are not simply funding a student for eight weeks—you are helping train a physician who will serve patients and communities for years to come.
