Thank you for your interest in the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at NOSM University. Our program is rooted in NOSM U’s social accountability mandate and offers a unique training experience across Northern Ontario’s diverse communities. From large academic centres in Sudbury and Thunder Bay to smaller urban, rural, and remote settings, our residents gain the breadth of exposure required to provide high-quality emergency care in any environment.

At NOSM U, Emergency Medicine training is more than mastering acute care skills—it is a commitment to serving patients and communities with compassion, resilience, and excellence. Our residents work alongside dedicated faculty in high-volume emergency departments, trauma centres, and rural hospitals, developing the confidence and adaptability essential for the practice of Emergency Medicine. Training sites provide exposure to a wide spectrum of presentations, from everyday emergencies to complex, resource-limited scenarios, preparing our graduates to thrive in any practice setting.

Our academic curriculum blends case-based learning, simulation, and hands-on procedural teaching. Residents benefit from small program size, strong mentorship, and individualized support, fostering both professional and personal growth. Opportunities for scholarly work, advocacy, and leadership are integrated into training, reflecting NOSM U’s mission to advance equitable health outcomes across Northern Ontario and beyond.
