GROUP 4: Undergraduate medical students enrolled in International medical school (outside of Canada)
NOSM University invites you to come to Northern Ontario and to experience one-on-one learning opportunities with our dedicated preceptors in exciting learning environments. Elective opportunities are currently only available to Undergraduate Medical Learners and are not open to International Medical Graduates (IMG) and Postgraduate Medical Residents.

Preceptor Stipends
NOSM University will pay your preceptor stipend.
Electives Application Fee
NOSM University charges a non-refundable application fee. All fees are posted on the AFMC Student Portal.
Additional Mandatory Fees
Additional mandatory fee are required throughout the application process, for medical malpractice insurance and UHIP (University Health Insurance Plan). More information regarding fees are posted on the AFMC Student Portal.
Housing and Travel
Visiting learners and/or their faculty of medicine are responsible for their travel expenses and for sourcing and covering the cost of their housing. However, NOSM University does maintain many student housing units in communities across Northern Ontario, intended for students of NOSM University. If these are available during the time of your rotation, they can be made available at a subsidized rate of $375/week.
Housing is confirmed approximately 4-8 weeks prior to the start of your rotation. As such, we encourage learners to secure their own housing. Once your placement is confirmed, NOSM University can provide contact information for people in your placement community, who can help you source housing during your placement.

NOSM University is pleased to invite International undergraduate learners to apply for electives placements.
For International Students, applications are accepted between 40 weeks and 28 weeks, learners are encouraged to apply 40 weeks prior to the placement start date.
For Canadians Studying Abroad, applications are accepted between 28 weeks and 16 weeks, learners are encouraged to apply 28 weeks prior to the placement start date.
All learners must review the International Students Visiting Electives Policy prior to submitting an application through the AFMC Student Portal.
The portal will guide you through the process. You will be prompted to upload necessary documents, and you will receive e-mail reminders and notifications throughout the process.
