UHIP

University Health Insurance Plan – UHIP coverage will be required for all rotations. Payments for these fees will be sent once a confirmed elective placement is accepted.

Learners cannot use a malpractice certificate issued by another school (including the learners home school) or purchased independently by the applicant.

Housing and Travel

Visiting learners and/or their faculty of medicine are responsible for their travel expenses and for sourcing and covering the cost of their housing.  However, NOSM University does maintain many student housing units in communities across Northern Ontario, intended for students of NOSM University.  If these are available during the time of your rotation, they can be made available at a subsidized rate of $375/week, these housing fees collected by NOSM University are to be submitted by electronic payment. The Community Relations Coordinator will provide you with a secure link to submit your payment.

Housing is confirmed approximately 4-8 weeks prior to the start of your rotation.  As such, we encourage learners to secure their own housing.  Once your placement is confirmed, NOSM University can provide contact information for people in your placement community, who can help you source housing during your placement.

Travel in the vast Northern Ontario can sometimes prove challenging. Our university is based in Thunder Bay and Sudbury Ontario, these locations are easy to travel to and from. When requesting a rotation in a more rural area of Northern Ontario keep travel time, difficulty and costs in mind when planning prior to the placement.
