GROUP 1: Medical Students and Residents Enrolled at NOSM

Medical Students and Residents currently studying at the NOSM University should note the following.

**All NOSM University Postgraduate and Undergraduate Elective Applications should be submitted no less than 8 weeks prior to the anticipated start date. It is important that learners apply well in advance and in accordance to the designated applicable dates and deadlines for priority placements.

Application Dates/Funding – Medical Students

 

Phase 1 (Year 2) NOSM University Electives


Application Dates & Deadlines

Elective Period: June 3 to August 16, 2024 (Dates are subjective at this time)

  • Elective Application Open: Nov 20, 2023 (at 12PM EST)
  • Deadline for Elective Application Submission: Dec 11, 2023 (at 11:59PM EST)

Important Note: Applications received post deadline will not guarantee preferred placement and/or NOSM U Housing.

Electives of 4 weeks or greater will include:

  • NOSM University Housing and funding for travel (one round trip), if required
  • A preceptor stipend to the preceptor

Important: These electives may be subdivided as 2 and 2, but must total a minimum of 4 weeks within the same community, in order to be eligible for this funding.

Phase 3 (Year 4) NOSM University Electives


Application Dates & Deadlines

Elective Period: April 22, 2024 to April 6, 2025

  • Elective Application Open: Oct 23, 2023 (at 12PM EST)
  • Deadline for Elective Application Submission: Nov 12, 2023 (at 11:59PM EST)

NOSM University resident elective applications must be received no later than 8-weeks prior to the start of the rotation. Electives are sourced on a first-come, first-serve basis and residents are encouraged to apply for electives as soon as possible.

  • A preceptor stipend to the preceptor

Changes to an Elective

In the event a change should occur to a submitted elective application or confirmed elective, it is important to notify the Community Relations Coordinator well in advance (no less than 8 weeks prior to the anticipated start date).

Special Notes

Although some learners may contact preceptors directly to discuss placement learning objectives, learners should refrain from setting elective dates with a preceptor. Our internal administrative process assures that all learners have equitable access to the available placement opportunities in Northern Ontario.
