Using a combination of videoconference and teleconference connectivity across Northern Ontario, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) held a regular meeting of the Board of Directors on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. At the recommendation of the Nominating Committee, the Board of Directors approved the appointment of Derek Debassige to the Board of Directors. Northern Ontario School of Medicine Granted Full Accreditation

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) and the Government of Ontario are pleased to announce that NOSM, the first new medical school in Canada in over 30 years, has been granted full accreditation of its M.D. education program. In Canada, accreditation is granted by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) and the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), two organizations that work together to set, maintain, and approve of the standards for undergraduate medical education at all Canadian medical schools. NOSM Announces New Director of Northern Ontario Health Information Network

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) is pleased to announce that Patricia (Patty) Fink is the successful candidate for the position of Director, Northern Health Information Network (NOHIN), effective January 1, 2009. Ms. Fink joined the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in 2004 as an Electronic Resources Librarian, and since September 2007 has been the Acting Director of NOHIN. NOSM’s Charter Class Takes Next Step Towards Becoming Physicians

Only Medical School in Canada to Have Entire Class Match to Residency Programs on First Attempt The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) is pleased to announce that all undergraduate medical students in its Charter Class have successfully matched to Canadian residency programs on their first attempt. In fact, NOSM was the only Canadian medical school in which all students were matched in the first round. NOSM Certification Application Status

On January 8, 2009, as part of a settlement of two outstanding Ontario Labour Relations Board Applications, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM), Laurentian University Staff Union (LUSU) , and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) agreed to hold a Certification vote for eligible employees at all NOSM locations* who are working in office, clerical, administrative, technical and service positions. NOSM Holds First Faculty Affairs Retreat in Thunder Bay

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) held its first Faculty Affairs Retreat in Thunder Bay on January 16 - 17, 2009. NOSM has over 800 faculty members across Northern Ontario, and many of them gathered in Thunder Bay to bring NOSM’s three faculty divisions (Medical Sciences, Human Sciences and Clinical Sciences) together in one place to facilitate a free-flow of ideas and information about current and potential future collaborative research and scholarly activities. The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) held its second, highly successful annual Comprehensive Community Clerkship (CCC) Retreat, entitled “Celebration and Collaboration within a Community of Learners,” in Kenora on January 9 – 11, 2009.
