Conference Funding

NOSM University supports development of leadership skills and scholarly activity for residents. Attendance at leadership conferences and presentation of research projects at local and national meetings or conferences is one avenue for residents to achieve these objectives.

Student Loan Forgiveness

Canada Student Loan Forgiveness for Family Doctors and Nurses

As a family doctor (including family medicine residents) working in an under-served, rural, or remote community in Canada, you may be eligible for the Government of Canada’s Canada Student Loan Forgiveness for Family Doctors and Nurses program.

As a family doctor or resident in family medicine, please review the section of the website “Canada Student Loan Forgiveness for Family Doctors and Nurses – How much you could receive” found here.

For an overview of the program, eligibility criteria, and application details, please refer to the webpage linked above. You can also use the Postal Code Lookup tool to verify whether a particular community qualifies as an eligible rural or remote community under this program.

PARO Resident Teaching Award

Nominate a deserving NOSM University Resident!

PARO Resident Teaching Award 

The PARO Resident Teaching Award has been established as an annual award of $1000 to honour one resident in each Ontario medical school. The recipient of the award will be a resident who provides outstanding clinical teaching experiences to junior house-staff and clinical clerks.   

Nomination Criteria & Requirements

Nomination Criteria 

The nominated resident:

  • Displays outstanding commitment to teaching and education of the junior house-staff and clinical clerks.  
  • Demonstrates the realization that teachers and students are partners in the learning environment in healthcare thereby always treating all learners and colleagues with respect.  
  • Demonstrates a welcoming receptivity to students’ questions.  
  • Displays a genuine interest in students’ personal development and well-being.  
  • Assists in the learner(s) in achieving learning objectives. 
  • Conveys information clearly and in an organized fashion.  
  • Is a full time resident in a College of Family Physicians of Canada or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada residency program at NOSM University. 

 Nomination Requirements

Nominations are due by noon on Monday, February 3, 2025 and may be made by completing and submitting the following nomination form via Qualtrics which is automatically sent to the Postgraduate Medical Education Office:

  • A completed nomination form (must be nominated by minimum 2 people)
  • A copy of the nominee’s cv
  • A letter of nomination outlining how the nominee meets the nomination criteria which includes the following: 

            ⇒  a list of teaching responsibilities held by the resident  

            ⇒ examples of positive statements indicating teaching success. 

            ⇒ examples supporting the way in which the resident meets the outlined criteria are crucial
