The Theme Chair (or Co-Chairs) plays an important role in overseeing one of the six integrating themes in all four years of the NOSM curriculum.

Theme 6 – Medical Career: The Medical Career Theme Committee will develop and deliver a curriculum designed to guide students in medical career and practice decisions.  The curriculum addresses relevant aspects of professional identity and career development, concepts of wellness and financial and practice management to support practical functioning as socially accountable physicians in the Northern and Rural context.

Responsabilités

  1. Provide leadership and direction to the Theme Committee Members in development of all aspects of the Theme curriculum including learner assessment.
  2. Chair Theme meetings.
  3. Supervise Committee members in a collegial manner.
  4. Attend Phase and UME Committee meetings.
  5. Report to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education, in their role.

Qualifications

Éducation

  • M.D. or equivalent with appropriate post-graduate training for clinical practice.

Certifications/Designations

  • RCPSC or CCFP certification
  • Current licensure with CPSO
  • Must have a Faculty Appointment or qualify for Faculty Appointment in Clinical Sciences Division, ideally at the rank of Associate Professor or above.

Connaissances, Compétences et Capacités

Experience

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a leadership position is required.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a leadership role within a committee is required.
  • Experience in developing, managing and implementing medical school curriculum in an accredited medical school is an asset.
  • Experience in one or more of the following topics is an asset: physician wellness, career advising, financial management, practice management.
  • Must be engaged in current clinical practice.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Evidence of strong leadership and decision-making skills is required.
  • Evidence of superior communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English is required.
  • Ability to communicate in French would be a considerable asset.
  • Ability to communicate in Ojibway and/or Cree would be a considerable asset.
  • Evidence of ability to be an effective team player and team leader is required.
  • Knowledge of progressive approaches to leading change, problem-solving and conflict resolution is required

Langue

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
  • French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset

Time Commitment

  • One (1.0) day per week
