Competition Number: 2026-2139-KWReporting directly to the Director, Health Sciences and Program Development, this position’s primary purpose is to provide academic and administrative leadership for the educational and professional standards of the NOSM University Dietetic Practicum Program (DPP). The Manager is responsible for the leadership of educational clinical practicum and academic planning, managing clinical partnership relationships, program development/evaluation, and strategic/operational planning of the program. This position is responsible for the education, support and mentorship of dietetic practicum learners so that graduates meet the entry-level regulatory standards for Registered Dietitians.
Responsibilities
Tasks may include but are not limited to the following:
Program Planning and Management
- Provides leadership, strategic direction, and establishes priorities for the DPP team. Directs the workflow and work processes to meet DPP objectives and timelines.
- Oversees the recruitment and selection process of staff, supervises the work of the Unit staff, manages performance expectations and deliverables, imposes disciplinary and non-disciplinary measures as deemed appropriate and ensures that appropriate training and development is provided initially and is ongoing.
- Works with the Manager, Rehabilitation Sciences to assess evolving needs for these functions and develop synergies in practices and allocation of staff resources within the unit and across NOSM University’s other related offices.
- Chairs and leads program governance and advisory committees that are comprised of a variety of clinician preceptors, NOSM University leadership, program alumni and other stakeholders.
- Oversees the development of practicum schedules for dietetic learner placements to enable graduates to meet the entry-level regulatory standards for Registered Dietitians.
- Supports and directs the supervision and evaluation of an annual cohort of dietetic learners by clinical preceptors, and provide additional mentorship as needed for the learners.
- Leads the DPP marketing plans, admissions processes, learner orientation weeks, and graduation. Works with the Manager, Rehabilitation Sciences to assess evolving needs for these functions and develop synergies in practices and allocation of staff resources within the unit and across NOSM University’s other related offices.
- Plans and monitors program level budget and ensures fiscal responsibility for all program expenditures. Manages program level reporting on budgets and submits required reports.
- Writes, revises and maintains program level policies and procedures and participates in the review of NOSM University wide policies with implications for program level academic and operational matters.
- Identifies the needs of DPP learners with respect to learner wellness, accommodations and program practices with respect to the learning environment and actively contributes to planning support structures at NOSM University that will account for the unique needs of the DPP.
Clinical Partnerships, Preceptors, Faculty Relationships & Collaborations
- Works with the Health Sciences Programs and Partnerships Coordinator and the Community Relations Unit to initiate, maintain and track affiliation agreements and learner placement documentation. Liaises with health organizations to secure sustainable clinical placements.
- Recruit, orient and provide both administrative and role performance support for preceptors and clinical site coordinators. Works directly with the Manager, Rehabilitation Sciences to assess and address preceptor support needs overall in Health Sciences and specifically for Registered Dietitians.
- Provide direction, guidance to clinical faculty/preceptors and community based independent contractors working collaboratively on the design and development of academic activities.
- Provide administrative oversight to the development, coordination and evaluation of the practicum curriculum in collaboration with clinical faculty/preceptors (content experts).
Program Accreditation & Continuous Quality Improvement
- Ensures the quality and relevance of the dietetic education curriculum and pedagogical methods adhere to accreditation standards. Represents the program provincially and nationally.
- Responsible for program evaluation activities. Reviews and analyzes program evaluation data/reports.
- Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure adherence to the principles of quality and the value of meeting/exceeding quality and accreditation standards.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Éducation
- A relevant Master’s degree in compliance with accreditation standards or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Current member of Dietitians of Canada and hold registration with the College of Dietitians of Ontario or other provincial dietetics regulatory body.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Minimum of five (5) years of related experience is required
- Demonstrated, significant experience as a preceptor of dietetic learners over an extended period of time
- Demonstrated, extensive, experience in curriculum development and learner assessment are required
- Demonstrated experience with policy development
- Demonstrated experience writing and editing complex documents
- Experience in successful project management
- Familiarity with relevant food and health related organizations throughout northern Ontario and have extensive professional connections with dietitians in a range of sectors in-order to build effective relationships through community engagement principles and practices
- Proven effectiveness as a leader committed to improving standards of service
- Proven experiences in building and leading teams in a distributed work environment
- Knowledge of the dietetic program accreditation standards and the integrated competencies for dietetic education and practice is essential
- Knowledge of adult education principles, familiarity with learning theory, and assessment/evaluation of the learning needs of individuals and groups.

- Knowledge of academic and or medical environment
- The Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations that apply to the work being performed
- Knowledge of Human Resources management (recruitment, scheduling, labour relations, performance management, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, and coaching)
- Advocacy skills and social accountability
- Mental health first aid and psychological safety
- Understanding of the rights and responsibilities of the Human Rights Code and the duty to accommodate in the work and learning environment
- Ability to analyze and synthesize complex fashion with a variety of other units, institutions and communities to further overall school strategic objectives
- Strong leadership and decision making skills including the ability to delegate, motivate and control the overall flow of work within the unit
- Compose and present high quality status reports and briefing notes in a timely manner
- Make clear concise and timely recommendations
- Workin a consultative and collaborative fashion with a variety of other units and direct reports to further overall school strategic objectives
- Work in a consultative and collaborative fashion with a variety of key stakeholders including hospitals, health care professionals and other academic program leaders and administrative depts
- Work independently and with multiple sources in a changing environment
- Work well under tight deadlines and able to manage multiple priorities and achieve concrete results
- Write and edit complex documents
- Understand the significance and impact of relationships and activities with partners both internal and external to NOSM University

Langue
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
