The position profile below calls for the successful candidate to have a substantial knowledge of, and exposure to, the issues faced by competency based medical education, distributed medical education, to possess significant experience in the health care and academic sectors, to be self-motivated and self-directed, and to possess superior interpersonal, facilitation, communication, management and problem-solving skills.

Reporting

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Competence Committee Chair (CCC) reports to Program Director, Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Responsibilities

Summary of Functions

  • Chairs the Competence Committee
  • As Chair, ensures that a robust, fair, objective, comprehensive assessment of each resident’s competence occurs
  • Builds the capacity and knowledge of the Competence Committee members related to competency-based assessment

 Educational Responsibilities

  • Develops an in-depth understanding of Competence by Design, and Triple C approaches to assessment including EPAs and priority topics
  • Develops an in-depth understanding of the electronic assessment platform (e.g. RC e-portfolio) being used
  • Participates in faculty development and mentoring of the competence committee members, ensuring a robust resident review, decision/promotion and feedback process
  • Closely follows the colleges (Royal College and CFPC) changes/suggestions and documents relating to competence assessment

 Administrative Responsibilities

  • Plans and chairs the competence committee meetings ensuring the Terms of Reference for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Competence Committee are followed
  • Mandatory attendance at RPC meetings
  • Mandatory attendance at the Enhanced Skills Resident Assessment Committee

Qualifications

Éducation

  • A gynecologist licensed in Ontario, practicing in Northern Ontario, with certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A current faculty appointment (or eligibility for same) with NOSM University
  • In-depth knowledge of competency based medical education, workplace assessments and appropriate feedback
  • Significant experience in the health care and academic sectors
  • Self-motivated and directed
  • Superior interpersonal, communication, management and problem-solving skills
  • Preference will be given to NOSM U faculty residing in Northern Ontario

Langue

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
  • French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset

Remuneration

  • As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process

Time Commitment

  • One (1.0) day per month
