Overview

The Clinical Faculty Research Lead provides strategic, operational, and scholarly leadership to advance clinical faculty research at NOSM University and within the PCTA. This role serves as the central connector for clinical sciences faculty across distributed LEGs and existing LEG research leads and Section Chairs, ensuring alignment between faculty research activities, NOSM U’s institutional research agenda, and PCTA/NOAMA priorities.

The position is designed as an initial leadership role that will guide the development of a scaffolded research structure – culminating in each Section having its own research lead and a coordinated network of LEG-based research champions.

Reporting

The Clinical Faculty Research Lead reports the Associate Dean, Clinical Faculty Affairs.

Responsibilities

Research Leadership & Strategic Alignment

  • Co-develop and implement a shared clinical faculty research strategy for NOSM U and PCTA/NOAMA.
  • Ensure alignment with the CAMINO Program research mentorship pathway and NOSM U’s institutional research priorities.
  • Using LEG and NOSM U databases, map current research activity across distributed sites and build coordinated connections among existing LEG and clinical faculty researchers.
  • Establish a sustainable framework for future section-level research leads and a structured LEG research-lead network.

Faculty Development, Mentorship & Capacity Building

  • In collaboration with PCTA, Research Services Office, CEPD, CAMINO and CSD, determine clinical faculty needs for research workshops, training sessions, and mentorship supports.
  • Support the CAMINO research mentorship pathway for clinical faculty.

Distributed Site Collaboration & Partnerships

  • Serve as the primary point of contact linking Clinical Sciences Division faculty, the NOSM U Research Services Office, PCTA, LEGs, and Section Chairs around research priorities and opportunities.
  • Support LEGs in developing local research plans and integrating LEG research leads into a coherent institutional structure.
  • Identify and broker cross-site collaborations and multi-LEG or multi-site research opportunities.

Research Governance & Operational Support

  • Support PCTA processes by identifying and engaging faculty reviewers for NOAMA grants and other funding programs.
  • Provide quarterly updates to the Associate Dean, Clinical Faculty Affairs, and NOAMA/PCTA leadership on research trends, gaps, and progress.

Knowledge Translation & Research Visibility

  • Develop and implement knowledge translation (KT) strategies to highlight research conducted by LEGs and clinical faculty.
  • Lead the creation of KT toolkits, templates, and guidelines to support clinical faculty in disseminating research.
  • Advise faculty on integrating evidence-based KT practices into their research activities and outputs.

Future State Contributions

The Clinical Faculty Research Lead will support the future mapping of a distributed research leadership structure that includes:

  • Section-based research leads.
  • A coordinated network of LEG research leads.
  • Standardized processes, communication pathways, and mentorship supports that become embedded in NOSM U’s Clinical Sciences Division and PCTA mechanisms.

Qualifications

Éducation

  • MD with a licence to practice medicine in the province of Ontario.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required

  • Must have a faculty appointment at NOSM U.
  • Experience securing and managing research funding.
  • Strong mentorship skills and ability to support faculty in research development.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and ethical considerations in research.

Preferred

  • Experience in an academic or healthcare setting.
  • Assistant professor rank or higher.
  • Previous leadership or administrative experience in research initiatives.
  • A strong network of research collaborators and funding agencies.

Remuneration

  • As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process

Time Commitment
