The Theme Co-Chair plays an important role in overseeing one of the five integrating themes in all four years of the NOSM University curriculum. The Theme Co-Chair reports to the Associate Dean Undergraduate Medical Education and works cooperatively with all Theme Chairs.

Theme 1: Northern and Rural Health, is an introduction to the social, cultural, economic and environmental realities of Northern Ontario. It provides an insight to how these realities shape the delivery of health care and the practice of medicine in the northern and rural context.

Responsabilités

  1. Provide leadership and direction to the Theme Committee Members in development of all aspects of the Theme in the NOSM curriculum including learner assessment.
  2. Chair Theme meetings in collaboration with the other Co-chair
  3. Supervise Committee members in a collegial manner.
  4. Attend Phase and UME Committee meetings.
  5. Report to the Associate Dean UME in their role.

Qualifications

Éducation

  • MD or PhD or equivalent in health or education field is required
  • Must have a Faculty Appointment or qualify for a Faculty Appointment in the Human, Medical or Clinical Sciences Division, ideally at the rank of Assistant Professor or above

Connaissances, Compétences et Capacités

  • Experience in Northern and Rural Health
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a leadership position is required.
  • Experience in developing, managing and implementing medical school curriculum in an accredited medical school is an asset
  • Experience as a Theme Committee member
  • Evidence of strong leadership and decision making skills is required.
  • Evidence of superior communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English is required.
  • Evidence of ability to be an effective team player and team leader is required.
  • Knowledge of progressive approaches to leading change, problem-solving and conflict resolution is required.

Langue

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
  • French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
