Project Summary

The Dr. Gilles Arcand Centre for Health Equity (Arcand Centre) is a multidisciplinary research centre of NOSM University (NOSM U) dedicated to the improvement of health and wellness in Northern Ontario. Established in 2021, the Arcand Centre supports a growing number of research networks and data holdings that focus on understanding priority healthcare and workforce concerns with key interest-holders from Northern Ontario, and beyond.

The Physician Lead, Medical Education Research, will work collaboratively with other leaders at the Arcand Centre supporting research and data infrastructures with a specific focus on education research and training pathways. This will include supporting the development of the clinical research program at the Centre, collaborating on the NOSM U health education and workforce impact study (HEWIS; previously known as the tracking study), leading the development of an innovative health professions education research trainee pathway, actively participating in the medical education research network (MERLIN), championing the Dr. Gilles Arcand Centre for Health Equity across Northern Ontario and beyond, and working to create sustainability and growth for the Arcand Centre.

Reporting

The Physician Lead, Medical Education Research, reports to the Director of the Dr. Gilles Arcand Centre for Health Equity at NOSM University.

Responsabilités

  • In collaboration with the Director and leadership team, lead the development and implementation of a health professions education trainee pathway within the Arcand Centre;
  • In collaboration with the Director and leadership team, identify health professions education research priorities and opportunities for the Arcand Centre;
  • Support the development and implementation of policies and operating procedures related to health professions research programs within the Arcand Centre (i.e., HEWIS);
  • Participate in promoting and leading medical education research projects within the MERLIN network;
  • Contribute to grant and funding applications that use data along the clinical continuum at NOSM U, specifically HEWIS data;
  • Act as an ambassador for the Centre within NOSM U, at meetings with external stakeholders, and academic conferences;
  • Participates in Centre leadership, and any other relevant committee work;
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Éducation

  • A physician licensed in Ontario with CFPC or FRCPC certification, who possesses or is eligible for an academic appointment with NOSM University

Connaissances, Compétences et Capacités

  • Preferably three (3.0) years recent Northern Ontario practice experience
  • Substantial knowledge of, and exposure to, the issues faced by northern and rural health care
  • Demonstrated knowledge about the field of medical education research
  • Self-motivated and directed
  • Superior interpersonal, communication, leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated advocacy for social accountability and health care and/or health professions education research

Langue

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
  • French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset

Remuneration

  • OMA Rate

Time Commitment

  • One (1.0) day per week
