The Simulation Coordinator reports to the Program Director and the Resident Program Committee.

Responsibilities

Summary of Functions

In conjunction with the Academic Coordinator and Program Director, the Simulation Coordinator is responsible for the planning, organizing, coordinating and quality of all simulation activities within the NOSM University Pediatric Residency Program.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate, develop and oversee the mandatory academic simulation sessions for Pediatric residents as part of the regular academic curriculum at each of the NOSM University sites (currently Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay)
• Liaise directly with the Academic Program Coordinator quarterly in order to coordinate simulation content with current four-year pediatric curricular cycle
• Collaborate and recruit faculty members in developing and participating in simulation in order to build simulation infrastructure and manpower at each of the sites
• Ensure the quality, responsiveness and relevancy of simulation sessions in regard to residents’ needs, while maintaining documentation of the simulation activities performed at each academic event and by each resident over time
• Monitor the content and evaluations of simulation sessions
• Utilize a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process for all simulation-based activities
• Report and liaise with the Residency Program Committee (RPC) to discuss simulation session content, goals and CQI development
• Participate in other required committees and activities
• Create, organize and run a simulation educator program for pediatric residents who have particular interest in simulation education
• Identify faculty development needs for simulation education, and assist in developing simulation resources to facilitate 15-minute faculty-led simulation sessions on the inpatient wards
• Liaise and support resident group in creating and running a resident-led simulation schedule where residents perform simulation for their colleagues (this includes senior resident site-specific simulation responsibilities)
• Review the program content at least annually with the Academic Coordinator and RPC to ensure academic accountability and that accreditation standards of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons are met
• Liaise with the Thunder Bay Neonatal Transport Team and Thunder Bay simulation centre in order to bolster the pediatric simulation program and build pediatric simulation infrastructure within Thunder Bay

Qualifications

Éducation

• A physician licensed in Ontario, practicing in Northern Ontario, with certification from the RCPSC (or equivalent as determined by the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education
• A current faculty appointment (or eligibility for same) with NOSM University

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Substantial knowledge of, and exposure to, the issues faced by regional and rural medical education
• Significant experience in the health care and academic sectors
• Self-motivated and directed
• Superior interpersonal, communication, management and problem-solving skills

Langue

• Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
• French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset

Remuneration

• As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process

Time Commitment

• Two (2.0) days per month
