Important Notice: Service Discontinuation

We regret to share that NOSM University’s Health Sciences Library will end its UpToDate institutional license effective September 1, 2025. This decision was not made lightly. Over the past few years, we’ve explored every possible option—including working with hospital partners—to ensure the continued availability of UpToDate. The ever-increasing cost of this resource has become unsustainable for the Health Sciences Library. In addition, as an American product UpToDate needs to be examined within the Ontario government’s Procurement Restriction Policy. We understand that this change may be disappointing. Please be assured that NOSM University values the contributions of our faculty and hospital partners.

Other point-of-care tools are available from our Point-of-Care Tools Subject Guide. These tools can be accessed remotely and some have mobile apps. For more information about library resources visit our website or email the library at askthelibrary@nosm.ca.

Faculty who are Ontario Medical Association (OMA) members can read more about discounted annual UpToDate subscriptions on the OMA’s website and on UpToDate’s website.

UME, MMS, DPP students and PGE residents are eligible to purchase UpToDate (or an alternative point-of-care tool) and be reimbursed for a one-year personal subscription.

More information about the reimbursement process and alternative point-of-care tools will be available in August on the library’s website.
