NOSM will soon offer a distributed Master of Medical Studies (MMS) program to physicians who want to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful researchers. The MMS will provide foundational research skills for physicians wanting to take health care questions (a few examples but not limited to clinical practice, health policy, and medical education) and develop a robust approach to answering those questions. The program will focus on learners developing the skills to acquire grant funding, obtain ethics approval, develop a research question and appropriate methodology, and finally write and present the results at conferences and in publication. This program strives to develop the next generation of research leaders for the North.
NOSM was founded with a social accountability mandate and as such the MMS program works closely to ensure the graduate program engages with all aspects of communities to encourage their input on graduate activities including research and scholarly activity. In addition, our goal is for learners to focus on health care problems in the north to improve the health status of all people in northern, rural, and remote communities.
NOSM serves as the Faculty of Medicine for Laurentian University in Sudbury and Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and the MMS graduates will receive a joint degree from both Lakehead and Laurentian Universities.
Please check back regularly for program updates.
*We are currently only accepting Domestic Students to this program.
