Northern Ontario #PPEforHCP – COVID-19 Relief
The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) Students, in collaboration with allied healthcare students at Lakehead and Laurentian University, are proud to join the rest of the province’s medical students in efforts to assist front-line healthcare workers in the fight against COVID-19. This web-page should be used as a reference point for all the student initiatives happening across Northern Ontario. For information specific to COVID-19, it’s symptoms and/or when to access healthcare please visit Health Canada’s webpage.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been placing increasing strain on the healthcare system, stretching our resources thinner and thinner. In Northern Ontario, many of our frontline healthcare professionals, such as physicians and nurses, do not have adequate access to personal protective equipment (PPE), such as face masks, gowns, gloves, and N95 respirators. The current shortage of PPE is placing our healthcare providers at a greater risk of contracting COVID-19 and spreading it amongst themselves and to patients. After hearing about the difficulties currently being faced by our colleagues on the frontlines in accessing PPE, healthcare students from across Northern Ontario have decided to step up.
