Le th\u00e8me de cette ann\u00e9e \u00e9tait l\u2019excellence dans l\u2019enseignement \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9cole de m\u00e9decine du Nord de l\u2019Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>Au programme de cette rencontre figuraient une pr\u00e9sentation en pl\u00e9ni\u00e8re, des s\u00e9ances de perfectionnement professionnel concomitantes et le point sur la recherche \u00e0 l\u2019EMNO. Sur les quatre invit\u00e9s sp\u00e9ciaux pr\u00e9vus, trois ont aussi anim\u00e9 des s\u00e9ances de perfectionnement du corps professoral : \u00ab Infiltrating the Curriculum : A Medical Humanist Under Cover \u00bb (infiltrer le programme d\u2019\u00e9tudes : un humaniste m\u00e9dical d\u00e9guis\u00e9) par la Dre Jacalyn Duffin; \u00ab Canadian Medical Association Session : Student Leadership \u00bb (s\u00e9ance de l\u2019Association m\u00e9dicale canadienne : le leadership \u00e9tudiant) par Mary Stacey; \u00ab Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research : Doing Research \u2013 Idea to Dissemination \u00bb (Centre de recherche en sant\u00e9 dans les milieux ruraux et du nord : la recherche \u2013 Id\u00e9e pour la diffusion) par Elizabeth Wenghofer.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019EMNO conna\u00eet les contributions hors pair du corps professoral \u00e0 l\u2019enseignement, \u00e0 la recherche, aux soins cliniques et \u00e0 l\u2019administration. Cette rencontre a \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u2019occasion de lancer une initiative touchant les cheminements de carri\u00e8re afin d\u2019appuyer l\u2019excellence. La proposition \u00e9nonce plusieurs options de carri\u00e8re qui permettent aux professeurs de participer aux activit\u00e9s d\u2019enseignement de l\u2019\u00e9cole tout en enrichissant leur carri\u00e8re en effectuant de la recherche.<\/p>\n<p>Le Dr William McCready, doyen associ\u00e9 principal du campus Ouest de l\u2019EMNO et doyen associ\u00e9 charg\u00e9 des affaires professorales a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que \u00ab L\u2019\u00c9cole de m\u00e9decine du Nord de l\u2019Ontario a lanc\u00e9 en 2010 un nouveau plan strat\u00e9gique o\u00f9 la promotion d\u2019excellentes relations avec le corps professoral fait partie des priorit\u00e9s. Cette rencontre nous a permis d\u2019\u00e9tablir des relations avec des professeurs de tout le Nord qui aident \u00e0 appliquer le mod\u00e8le unique d\u2019enseignement distribu\u00e9 et se font un devoir de former des m\u00e9decins et des professionnels de la sant\u00e9 bien qualifi\u00e9s qui poss\u00e8dent le leadership, les connaissances et les comp\u00e9tences pour exercer dans le Nord de l\u2019Ontario et ailleurs. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Le portefeuille des affaires professorales, qui englobe le corps professoral des sciences cliniques, m\u00e9dicales et humaines, consiste \u00e0 diriger, superviser et repr\u00e9senter plus de 1 000 professeurs de l\u2019EMNO. Son but est de veiller \u00e0 ce que l\u2019\u00e9cole poss\u00e8de les ressources professorales n\u00e9cessaires pour offrir une exp\u00e9rience \u00e9ducationnelle de la plus haute qualit\u00e9 aux \u00e9tudiants, mais aussi de renforcer la capacit\u00e9 et l\u2019engagement des professeurs dans tout le Nord de l\u2019Ontario en appuyant leurs activit\u00e9s de recherche et d\u2019enseignement.<br \/>\nOn March 4-5, 2011, nearly 80 faculty members of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) came together at the third annual Faculty Affairs Retreat held in Sudbury. The theme of this year\u2019s retreat was \u201cExcellence in Teaching at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The retreat included a keynote session, concurrent professional development sessions, and an update on research at NOSM. Also featured were four special guests who delivered the following faculty development sessions: \u00ab\u00a0Infiltrating the Curriculum: A Medical Humanist Under Cover,\u00a0\u00bb by Dr. Jacalyn Duffin; \u00ab\u00a0Canadian Medical Association Session: Student Leadership,\u00a0\u00bb by Mary Stacey; and, \u00ab\u00a0Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research: Doing Research \u2013 Idea to Dissemination,\u00a0\u00bb by Dr. Elizabeth Wenghofer.<\/p>\n<p>NOSM recognizes the outstanding contributions that the faculty is making to education, research, clinical care, and administration. To support continued faculty excellence, a faculty career pathways initiative was also launched at the Retreat. The proposal sets out a number of career options, which will allow faculty to contribute to the academics of the School while at the same time enhancing faculty careers by engaging in research activities.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. William McCready, Senior Associate Dean of NOSM\u2019s West Campus and Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs said, \u201cThe Northern Ontario School of Medicine launched a new strategic plan in 2010, and fostering excellent faculty relations is a strategic priority within that plan. This retreat allows us an opportunity to develop relationships with faculty across the North who assist in delivering the School\u2019s unique model of distributed medical education and are committed to the education of high quality physicians and health professionals with the leadership, knowledge, and skills to practice in Northern Ontario, and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Faculty Affairs Portfolio \u2013 which oversees faculty in the clinical, medical, and human sciences \u2013 provides leadership, supervision, and representation for over 1,000 faculty members of NOSM.
