Dr. Marina Ulanova

Marina Ulanova is a Professor of Immunology at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM). Dr. Ulanova received her MD as well as MSc and PhD in Immunology in Moscow (Russia), and later her second PhD in Clinical Immunology from University of Gothenburg (Sweden). She moved to Canada in 2000, completed postdoctoral training at the University of Alberta and became one of the founding faculty members at NOSM when the School opened in 2005. She runs a research program with the major focus on immuno-epidemiology of bacterial infections, vaccinology, and host-pathogen interactions. Dr. Ulanova’s research is supported by Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Academic Funding Plan of Academic Health Science Centers (AHSC AFP), and the industry. In collaboration with researchers at the National Microbiology Laboratory, National Research Council of Canada, and the Arctic Investigation Program of the US Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Ulanova works on the development of a new vaccine to prevent invasive Haemophilus influenzae type a disease in North American Indigenous people. She has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers.
