Simulation-Based Learning
NOSM is committed to innovative education and research for a healthier North. Simulation-based education is an important tool which supports NOSM’s goal of fostering exemplary quality health care in rural and remote communities. In partnership with Northern Ontario’s academic health sciences centres, NOSM learners’ opportunities for engaging in simulation-based education are growing. We have a range of high and medium fidelity mannequins, part task trainers of various kinds, a standardized patient program, and a variety of online simulation tools. Simulation-based learning at NOSM occurs across multiple sites with simulation labs and standardized patient programs in Sudbury and Thunder Bay.
Simulation activities are developed collaboratively, including NOSM partners, faculty, program staff and our simulation staff. While simulation-based learning encompasses a wide variety of environments, equipment and supplies, our simulation team strives to assist faculty to deliver exciting, safe and relevant learning experiences that give NOSM learners hands-on, real-time opportunities to further develop their skills.
