About NOSM Education Research Communities

Undergraduate Medical Education

The Office of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of the four year Undergraduate Medical Education program which leads to the MD degree.

The UME curriculum of NOSM is grounded in its social accountability mandate by providing an Undergraduate Medical Education program that is responsive to the individual needs of the students and to the health-care needs of the people of Northern Ontario.

NOSM employs a distributed community-engaged learning model of instruction, meaning that widely distributed human and instructional resources are utilized independent of time and place in over 70 community partner locations across Northern Ontario.

The Office of UME includes:

  • Curriculum planning and development
  • Student Assessment
  • Program Evaluation
  • Active Learning
  • Learner Affairs
