RoCS Sault Ste. Marie

Program Overview

The Family Medicine Residents of the Canadian Shield (RoCS) Sault Ste. Marie program is a two-year residency in Family Medicine. Educational programming is administered through the East Campus of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine located in Sudbury, Ontario. It offers clinical learning placements in community-based Family Medicine leading to certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Residents can expect Family Medicine training that will prepare them for eventual practice in any community, but especially for communities in northern Ontario including rural and remote areas. These learning experiences prepare residents to practice with confidence and distinction anywhere.

Residents are provided with community-based family medicine rotations in a variety of culturally diverse communities at learning sites throughout northern Ontario. Program preceptors are leaders of the medical community and well respected by their patients and colleagues. Clinical learning occurs in the community with residents assigned to individual teaching physicians in Family Medicine or a specialty.
