How to Use the NOSM Electives Catalogue

This document is a Reference Guide on how to use the Northern Ontario School of Medicine’s Elective Catalogue.

Please allow pop-up windows on your browser. This will allow you to view community and preceptor information.

The NOSM Electives Catalogue has been developed to assist you with your elective or core clinical placement selections in Northern Ontario.

How to search the Electives Catalogue using the map:

1. Select an area of the map to see a listing of all of communities.
** Please note that a pop-up window will appear with your options.**

2. Select the community that you are interested in. This will allow you to view the disciplines and training levels that are available in that community.

3. Select the discipline/training level that interests you.
** Please note that a new tab will appear with in-depth information on the community and preceptor options.**

4. Make note of the preceptor’s reference code for all of your preferences. The reference code is located at the top of the preceptor’s information in red (i.e. JPT-3-005). This reference code should be included on your application within the Clinical Facilitator’s name field or listed in the comment field. Please keep in mind that selecting a preferred preceptor/group/clinic does not guarantee that they will accept your placement request. Final acceptance of the placement remains with the physician(s) in question and based on several factors (ie. availability).

How to search through the onscreen filters:

1. Set the appropriate filter to reflect your desired preference.
** Please note that a pop-up window will appear with your options.**

2.
Select the discipline/training level that you are interested in finding out more information about.
** Please note that a new tab will appear with in-depth information on the community and preceptor options.**

3.
Final acceptance of the placement remains with the physician(s) in question and based on several factors (ie. availability, dates in question, their own booked personal time off such as holidays, etc.)

About NOSM's Electives Catalogue

Data found within the Electives Catalogue was collected through surveys and discussions with individual preceptors or group leads. Some communities within Northern Ontario may not be listed in the Electives Catalogue as information on preceptors in that community was not available at the time of launching this initiative. We continue to work with our valued faculty to obtain this information for your selection choices therefore applications can still be submitted for northern communities that are not directly included in the Electives Catalogue.

Please refer to our Northern Ontario Electives section on our NOSM webpage for additional information.
