H1N1 Information for the Primary Care Setting

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) recognizes that a strong faculty development program is the key to achieving excellence in medical education. For that reason NOSM is committed to delivering an integrated and comprehensive faculty development program.
The Faculty Development Unit appreciates the interdisciplinary nature of the school curriculum and the geographic disbursement of the clinical faculty. Hence everyone will be able to participate in educational events to develop skills in teaching, research and administration.

There are two broad categories of Faculty Development sessions:

1. Orientation:

These sessions will introduce the School’s clinical faculty to various aspects of the medical school environment, including:

  • Academic environment, appointments and promotions;
  • The School’s vision, mission, values;
  • Background and people at the School; and,
  • Evolution of the School’s Faculty Learning environment and curriculum.

2. Teacher training:

Addresses the skills required for teaching the School’s curriculum, including:

  • Adult learning theory;
  • Clinical teaching/bedside teaching;
  • Case based learning;
  • Patient-centered clinical method;
  • Small group facilitating;
  • Lecturing;
  • Learner assessment; and,
  • Providing feedback.

Study Credits will be available:
