Continuing Education and Professional Development
The Continuing Education and Professional Development Office at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine is dedicated to providing learner-centered continuing medical education, faculty development, and professional development opportunities to physicians and allied health care professionals of Northern
Ontario. Accredited programs that are supported or co-developed by the CEPD Office promote scholarly activity and enhance clinical and teaching competencies along the continuum of a physician or faculty member’s career, and allow for collection of credits from engagement in educational opportunities.
Offering more than 300 sessions annually, the CEPD Office connects physicians, faculty, and staff with the workshops, conferences, lectures, case-based scenarios, round-tables, self-directed learning resources, and seminars that are pertinent, timely, and relevant to their learning goals as well as to the
health care needs of Northern Ontario residents.
Continuing Medical Education
CEPD recognizes the unique challenges that physicians face in Northern Ontario, and supports the development of curriculum which will enhance the nature of the physician-patient relationship. With a wide variety of topics ranging from specialty-specific skills to office management, physicians may
engage in workshops, lectures, or conferences tailored to their identified learning needs.
NOSM's unique and distributed campus has inspired a creative approach to faculty development at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. We offer a wide variety of innovative and interactive workshops to meet the individual learning needs of each of our faculty members and provide them with multiple forums to share
their experiences and challenges, as well as opportunities to improve specific skills in the areas of teaching and preceptoring, educational and administrative leadership, and scholarly and research activities.
In addition to our workshops, self-directed online learning modules and Problem Based Small Group Learning Modules (PBSGL-ED) are accessible to all faculty, in all communities, as the need arises. Collaboration with the Postgraduate Medical Education, Undergraduate Medical Education, Research and Community Engagement
Portfolios ensures that the needs identified in the NOSM community are met with effective faculty development programming.
The CEPD Office is an accredited provider of CME, and is able to approve applications for continuing education credits for the College of Family Physicians of Canada (Mainpro+) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Maintenance of Certification Section 1 and 3).
