Since its official opening in 2005, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) has developed and delivered a distinctive model of distributed, community-engaged and socially accountable medical education and research. NOSM serves as the Faculty of Medicine of Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and the Faculty of Medicine of Laurentian University in Sudbury, with teaching and research sites across Northern Ontario. The entire geography of Northern Ontario is the campus of NOSM.
NOSM is a made-in-the-North solution that is attracting attention from around the world for its innovative model. In just a small number of years, NOSM has become a world leader in community-engaged medical education and research, while staying true to its social accountability mandate of contributing to improving the health of people and communities of Northern Ontario.
We are proud of our accomplishments and we remain focused on advancing our education and research mandates. We remain committed to being a socially accountable organization and will work as a whole school with our communities, partners and other collaborators to address the health care needs of the region. Together, we work to achieve our strategic goal and strive to fulfil our vision of Innovative Education and Research for a Healthier North.
